In its inaugural year, The Hogarth Prize invites UK-based artists and makers to enter works in any medium suitable for wall display – from painting and printmaking to photography and mixed media.

With a top prize of £3,000 and a solo exhibition at Hogarth’s House in Chiswick, London, this new annual award celebrates outstanding contemporary British artwork that combines traditional techniques with original thought.

Deadline for online submissions: Tuesday 2 June 2026, 5pm.

About The Hogarth Prize

Named for one of Britain’s most influential artists – a painter, engraver, writer and businessman known for his sharp social commentary and outspoken resistance to the artistic establishment – The Hogarth Prize honours his legacy of invention, challenge, and rebellion.

William Hogarth’s work challenged injustice, corruption and moral hypocrisy. His keen observational eye, technical skill, and rebellious spirit continue to resonate today.

The Hogarth Prize offers an inclusive platform for creativity, presenting a diverse range of wall-based artwork across disciplines, while emphasising:

  • Traditional techniques

  • Original thinking

  • Meaningful engagement with contemporary culture

As the organisers put it: “The Prize will be awarded to an individual artist whose work demonstrates exceptional technical skill and meaningful engagement with contemporary culture.”
